The Executive Spokesperson of an organization is usually the executive (general) director, with deputy or division directors/managers as either vice-spokespersons or primary for specific, technical issues.
Within coalitions mostly the (vice-) chairmen are appointed as spokespersons. A spokesperson is the most visible personal representative of an organization and as such their external appearance and performance while distributing mission and messages is extremely important for the goodwill and image of the organization.
In a first introducing training week selected spokespersons of one organization first learn the essentials for successful communication: defining mission statements and messages; understanding the importance of communication protocols, strategies and media plans and how to develop them; implementing mission and messages in both formal and informal external communications; dealing with the media; preparing for television and radio interviews; and speaking in public. The group sessions allow trainees to share experiences and practice through assignments and role play, including interviews in front of a camera, a valuable tool to analyze both verbal and non-verbal communication.
Though this introduction week is absolutely essential to improve knowledge and understanding of trainees, as a stand-alone training it would surely fall short to deliver the crucial skills for the important role a good spokesperson has. To avoid this mistake so often made with workshops and trainings and instead offer lifelong benefits for your investment in this program, the training therefore continues with twelve individual coaching sessions of 90 minutes a week for each trainee. During this coaching period we will fully implement the actual situation and needs within your organization in discussing and practicing all lessons/topics learned during the first week; From (re)defining your organization’s messages or existing communication strategies to preparing for an actual speech or interview with the media.
At the end of the initial training & coaching period, a final assessment of personal and organizational needs regarding communication will take place, with a possibility for additional coaching and/or assistance for specific requests.
Training & Coaching are provided in English. An interpreter and training materials in the local language can be arranged on request at additional costs. Individual Coaching sessions outside Cambodia will take place through scheduled electronic sessions (Email/Skype/Chat).
